What Are Your Shoes Saying About You?

Shoes are like the punctuation mark on the statement your outfit makes. They can lend a somber note to an ensemble, like a period. They can take a basic outfit and add punch and excitement like an exclamation point. They might make you ask "WHAT were they thinking?" about an otherwise normal outfit. No two people will wear the same pair of shoes exactly the same way with the exact same combination of items from their wardrobe, unless it is a uniform. What could your shoes be saying about the statement you are making in your outfit?
Men aren't quite so versatile with the selection of statements they can make with shoes, but his shoes' condition says a good bit. A guy typically only has about 3 pairs of shoes-sneakers, casual leather shoes and a pair of dress shoes- and possibly a pair of work or hiking boots. Any other shoes he has are either ones he had to buy for an occasion or because he was made to, or they are so worn that he had to replace them but refuses to part with them. If a guy wears his fancy dress shoes, he's looking to impress. A pair of sneakers in good shape means he wants to look presentable but comfortable. Tattered sneakers say he either can't be bothered or he is "beyond" fashion. A nice pair of casual shoes worn with matching socks let everyone know that this guy is in casual mode but wants to look sharp. Work or hiking boots worn outside work tells the world that this here's a real guy who isn't afraid to kick butt if he has to.
Of course your shoes' color, texture and shape all play their part in the overall impression your fashion statement makes. Push a few boundaries by matching your shoes to your mood, instead of just your outfit. Maybe you can turn a "period sort" of day into an "exclamation point" kind of day, with some "question marks" thrown in for good measure.
